Guest: Keg Johnson - President of Blakk Pyramid Entertainment

“Google me man!”, that’s what you get when you ask Keg Johnson to share his vast experience as a producer, arranger and writer. His pages number in the hundreds. Here’s Keg Johnson in a nutshell…
This list of artists he’s produced or written may or may not appear in the many listed discographies. Denise Williams, The Sylvers, Stebe Arringon, Bobby Womack, Bobby Hutcherson, Gene Harris, Joyce Kennedy, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Osmods, Lou Rawls, Vesta Williams, Randall K., Foster Sylvers, The Noise Boiiz, Wildon Ash, Evelyn Champaign King, Gerald Levert, The Brothers Johnson, Chico Hamilton, The Waters Family, the DeFranco Family, Betty Davis(Nasty Girls), Jimmy Smith, Gloria Lynn and The Spinners to name a few. I’m sure you know Keg’s work ethics and successful track record.
His solid success is based on his unique ability to not think out of the box, he prefers to believe there is no box and that God universally channels his talents and gifts. He’s been known to say, “it’s not me. Somebody’s singing in my ear.”
It all started as though God had a hand in it or blind luck was abundant. I won’t name the group, but Keg had a hand on a very big record, though his name did not appear in the credits, he says, “it did validate a style that I believed in”. His record was a B-side and became a number one hit. Because of that record, the legendary Jerry Butler took interest and got Keg his first of many gigs. The first artist being that wonderful songstress Gloria Lynn, then the Sylvers, and the rest is history. Literally!
Keg is the son of famed trombone player Frederick “Keg” Johnson Sr. and nephew of the also famous saxophone artist Albert “Budd” Johnson Sr. (Both now in the Jazz Hall of Fame). As a child and young adult he grew up around Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Count Basie and was for a short time a member of the “Chanters”, whose other members include Budd Johnson Jr. Larry Pendergrass, Elliot Green, Freddy Page and Bobby Thompson.
There you have it. You can see why Keg just says, “Google me man!”
